CASE 6: Synovial chondrometaplasia 
Numerous calcific round bodies distributed about the joint capsule are present. These represent areas of synovial thickening which develop cartilaginous foci that later calcify. These cartilage bodies may stay attached to the synovial membrane or may detach, thus becoming loose joint bodies. Once detached, they
may increase in size and calcium content. They can cause pressure erosion on the articular surfaces.
