9/19/2009: the Inaugural IUPUI Regatta canoe race took place on the north end of the Indianapolis canal running from the Buggs' Temple end to the USS Indianapolis Basin and back. Faculty and staff from the Radiology Research Imaging and Neuroimaging department formed a team called The Photons and raced to the finish line to gain 5th place.
- 01/21/2009: The Indianapolis Zoo requested an MRI scan for Joe, a 25 year old Red Rock Lemur, to detect any optical abnormality. Fortunately for Joe, none was detected.

- 01/27/2009: Congratulations to Marc Normandin, Purdue University Graduate Student in Biomedical Engineering and resident trainee in the Indiana Institute for Biomedical Imaging (IIBIS). Marc recently received a $3,000 fellowship from the Society for Nuclear Medicine. This award is one of only seven awards offered internationally. Marc’s project was titled “A single-scan method for estimation and visualization of neurotransmitter release, “ and the grant award is being used to support the research project. The fellowship also supported work contributing to Marc’s Ph.D. Thesis, three conference abstracts, two articles about to be submitted to peer-reviewed journals, and a third manuscript that will be submitted in the coming months.
Congratulations to Navin Bansal, Judy James, and their coauthors on receiving the Top Abstract Score Award for the following abstract: Controlled Radiofrequency Hyperthermia and Simultaneous Monitoring of its Effects in Sc-implanted 9L-glioma by In Vivo 1H, 23Na and 31P Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy at the 2008 World Conference on Interventional Oncology.
