We offer a one year appointment as lecturer in the Department of Radiology.
There are currently NO openings for the MSK fellowship in 2010-2011.
There are 3 openings for 2011-2012.
Our section is responsible for musculoskeletal imaging at Indiana University Medical Center, which consists of five hospitals with a total of 2,000 beds. In addition, we interpret examinations from two other network affiliated hospitals and multiple imaging centers. Each day, we interpret 35 to 50 cross-sectional studies that include a mix of MRI and CT examinations. We have full responsibility for the performance and interpretation of musculoskeletal MRI, multichannel CT, arthrography, and image-guided bone and soft tissue biopsies.
Equipment includes 19 clinical MRI scanners ranging in strength from 1.0 to 3.0 tesla, a 3.0 Tesla research MRI scanner, 15 multichannel CT scanners including 64 channel machines, 4 DEXA scanners, two PET scanners (one with CT), and a small parts PET research scanner. We serve as an alpha site for multichannel CT for Philips Medical Systems (Cleveland, OH). All projection radiography studies are performed digitally with the majority using direct radiography. All of the examinations are available by PACS. We use voice recognition dictation systems.
Our collaborative clinical, research, and teaching relationships with the Section of Rheumatology and Department of Orthopedic Surgery are excellent. IU has one of only 14 Multipurpose Arthritis Centers (MACs) in the country funded by the NIH. There is a strong emphasis on joint replacement in the orthopedic surgery department and our section has published much of the imaging literature in this area. Excellent sports medicine exposure is achieved through our outreach programs and our affiliation with the National Institute of Fitness and Sport. There is an active orthopedic oncology service that provides exposure to tumor imaging. Within the hospitals described above are two Level I Trauma Centers ensuring excellent exposure to trauma related musculoskeletal imaging.
Our collaborations yield much material for publication and presentation at such venues as the International Skeletal Society, the Society of Skeletal Radiology, Radiological Society of North America, and the American Roentgen Ray Society. Participants in the musculoskeletal program are encouraged to participate in all aspects of our clinical and academic work.
