The radiologists at Indiana Radiology Partners are providing diagnostic tests to women that can significantly reduce their risk of developing vascular disease. Early detection is key in preventing stroke, heart attack, and even death. By measuring blood pressure at various points of the body, radiologists can detect early signs of vascular disease. Once found, a proper treatment plan might include angioplasty, a non-surgical procedure that restores proper blood flow. Angioplasty is less invasive and less costly than surgery and patients experience a much quicker recovery time. It involves the insertion of a very small balloon into the diseased blood vessel. The interventional radiologist increases the diameter of the artery by slowly inflating the balloon. A small mesh like metal called a stent can also be inserted into the vessel thereby helping to strengthen the artery and increase blood flow.
