Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt (TIPS) Minimize

When a patient is suffering from hypertension (elevated blood pressure) brought on by a liver dysfunction, serious complications can follow. Interventional Radiology provides an alternative to surgery that is less invasive and has fewer complications. TIPS (Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt) involves an interventional radiologist placing a metal tube (stent) within the liver. The stent will allow for lower blood pressure as the stent creates a new passageway for blood to flow to and from the liver.
