 Liver Disease / SIR-Spheres Minimize

There are several serious medical consequences concerning the liver. Portal (liver) hypertension (elevated blood pressure) involves the dramatic slowing or stoppage of blood through the liver. Interventional radiologists can relieve the elevated blood pressure by inserting a small metal tube (stent) in the liver allowing a new route for blood to flow. Bile duct obstruction involves the blockage of the ducts that carry waste from the liver into the intestines. An interventional radiologist can place a draining tube that carries away the harmful waste material. Liver cancer can be the most serious of these medical conditions. SIR-Spheres is a hopeful treatment that shows great promise in the battle against cancer. Small radioactive beads are placed near the tumor by an interventional radiologist, thereby slowing down or halting the advancement of the tumor.
