Place the region of interest in the gantry center.
Orient the scan plane oblique to the joint surfaces of interest.
Extend the scan coverage to include adjacent anatomy.
Use the thinnest X-ray beam collimation possible.
Use the highest mA setting possible.
- pitch < 1 for overlapped spirals in multislice imaging
Use 140 kVp when metal is present to reduce artifacts.
Image reconstruction considerations include:
- reconstruction interval = 1/2 nominal slice width
- bone algorithm for MPR
- standard or soft tissue algorithm for surface 3D
